Happy Easter

Sin. Death. Destruction. Hell. Hopeless. Anger. Hate. Separation. Division.

Righteousness. Life. Wholeness. Heaven. Hope. Peace. Love. Unity. Togetherness.

The difference He has made in me, He can make in others. And the difference He has made in others, He can make in me.

God's delight is to change, to save, to deliver, and to bring hope, light, and life.

Happy Easter.

Eugene H. Peterson: Eat This Book: A Conversation in the Art of Spiritual Reading
This is the one book I have read in the first half of 2008 that has impacted me the most. It has changed the way I think about the Bible, the way I communicate the Bible and the way I understand my God is communicating with me. I recommend it without reservation. It is not a "quick and easy" read. But, it is worth the effort and energy to make your way through it. There is no downside in reading this book for those that want more clarity in understanding the Bible. (*****)
Patrick M. Lencioni: The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable
Excellent, excellent, excellent. The clarity of addressing the issue and the engaging style of using a story to communicate the principles makes this book a must read for anyone that is involved in leadership and involved in working with a team. (*****)
Eugene H. Peterson: Living the Resurrection: The Risen Christ in an Everyday Life
An excellent contemplative book. There is deep reflection on the meaning and practical life of the resurrection in daily life and application. It took me a while to get into the book, but the last section was the best. (***)
Steven R. Tracy: Mending the Soul: Understanding and Healing Abuse
Steve graduated from the same high school as I did back in the 70's ( I graduated in the 80's). This is the best book I have read on the subject of sexual abuse and recovery. The book provides practical guidelines for personal life struggles and also for churches to use as safeguards. (*****)
The Quest for the Radical Middle
This book is written in a "homey" style. What strikes me is the desire to "tell it like it is" in a history of the Vineyard church planting movement. I love the stories that are communicated. (****)
Stephen A. Macchia: Becoming a Healthy Team: Five Traits of Vital Leadership
Clear, simple principles on building a Biblically based approach to team leadership. There is alot of experience on these pages. (****)
Lynne Hybels: Rediscovering Church: The Story and Vision of Willow Creek Community Church
I love this book. I have read it 4-5 times. It is a candid, open, transparent view of the Willow Creek Church growth and the pitfalls they encountered along the way. Not the typical "success" story, but I love it for the reality it shares. (*****)
Mark Driscoll: Confessions of a Reformission Rev.: Hard Lessons from an Emerging Missional Church (The Leadership Network Innovation)
An excellent biographical account of church planting and church growth. Very funny moments in the book. This was recommended by a friend (Thanks Todd) and I highly recommend it. (*****)
Ray Blackston: Flabbergasted
October - The best and funniest book on the missionary experience I have read... You will laugh, you will cry, a must read. (*****)
Bill Hybels: Courageous Leadership
September - Great book, great principles, a couple of years old. Practical, down to earth instruction, especially for church leaders, but with some broader applications for those serving as leaders in other areas. (*****)
